Santiago is the capital of Chile and the largest city in Chile. At 520 meters above sea level, the city head up all legislative dealings for the long thing country with members of the legislature meeting in the brilliant coastal city of Valparaiso. The life in Santiago is very progressive and modern. The city is a bustling metropolitan segment and is surrounded by suburban growth, shopping areas, tall buildings with impressive architectural style. Transportation in and around Santiago is supported by a newly established and developing metro system called the Santiago Metro.

The Greatest Events in Santiago are those such as the Santiago Mil in January through July. This event is fully theatrical with it performances that take place in the international theater festival of Santiago a Mil. Artists and theater companies perform big productions in the city streets, cultural centers and theaters.
There are many festivals to participate in with two notable ones; the Santiago International Documentary Festival and the Santiago Film Festival. The much celebrated Santiago International Documentary Festival offers a long look at Latin American cinema. Viewers are treated to screening all over Santiago. There is also the Santiago International Film Festival in August. This past summer there were more than 90 films and documentaries premiered there, attracting visitors to the festival into the evening.
When in Santiago, it would be remiss not to attend the Chilean Wine Fair. From September through October, there are a multitude of wonderful opportunities to sample the many natural wines, grown and developed in the area. Ever since the 1980s, a renaissance in the Chilean wind industry took place. The result is a sampling event of all the famous local Chilean Fine wines in the Santiago Hotel Plaza San Francisco.
For the younger generations, the Snickers Urbania is worth breezing into with a skateboard or BMX bike. The participants will entertain the spectators with their death defying stunts within the indoor air at Snickers Urbania. There are even video-games for raising the competitive spirit. Surrounding this venue are tattoo artists, break dancers and DJs controlling the atmosphere with great music. The theme of the street festivities resonates through and through Santiago. The event is centered inside the Santiago Movistar Arena.
Not to be overlooked is the vein of International Display of Traditional Arts and Crafts from October through November. Just in time for Christmas, many hand made wares and artistic works made in the tradition of the local culture. Shoppers are welcome to spend the entire day perusing the booths. Many booths are also open for the lunch crowd around this venue. The sounds of Chilean folklore music filter through the scene for all visitors to enjoy as part of the Arts and Crafts displays in Santiago’s Vitacura Bicentenary Park.
