Bran Castle, the castle where the infamous Count Dracula is said to live is now a tourist spot where people visit hoping to learn more about the Count. Though there are no real accounts saying that Bran Castles’ owner Vlad Tepes, Prince of Wallachia is a real vampire but it is still fun and exciting to think that once a real vampire has lived among people more so to rule them.
Bran Castle is a Romanian landmark located between Bugeci Mountain and Piatra Craiului Mountain. It is a 130-mile travel from Bucharest, the capital of Romania. Bran Castle was established in 1212 by the Teutonic order to be a fortress and after several years the Saxons conquered it. In 1378 the Count Dracula himself, Vlad Tepes, used it as a headquarters against the Ottoman Empire.

Bran castle is also said to be the headquarters of Vlad Tepes during his invasion of Transylvania, though it was said that he only visited the castle once and that his real residence is in Arges River where Poenari castle, now in ruins is found. The Prince of Tuscany, Dominic, now owns Bran Castle, the home of Count Dracula, which is the son of Princess Ileana, the daughter of Queen Marie who once used the castle as a royal residence. The Castle is still decorated by the Queen’s belongings and can still be found inside the castle.

Bram Stoker is the writer who originally created the vampire story in 1987 based on the life of Vlad Tepes also known as The Impaler, a totalitarian leader and merciless prince who slay anyone who goes against him, may it be a noble man or a peasant. And because Vlad is also known as dracul or the devil in Romania, the mystery and the ruthlessness of the prince drive Bram into making a setting so like the architecture of the Bran castle.

Today, as the famous fictional character still exists and is still boggling the minds of tourists, visiting the castle and exploring the place where the count Dracula himself is said to have once lived is quite fascinating. Actually whether the story of Stoker is true or not, Bran Castle is now a well known tourist destination and is garnering more and more visitors each year, thanks to the legend of Count Dracula.

Bran castle now serves as a museum where one can find several pieces of art collections of high value and furniture decorations once owned by the Queen, its past owners and inhabitants. It also showcases paintings and sculptures made of wood, ceramics and silver pieces, which are perfectly preserved, for the museum. Armors and weaponry that were used in battle can also be found in the museum, which is as old as the castle. The castle also has a village museum where one can witness the development of the traditional architecture of the village.

While for those who are curious about Count Dracula, visiting the castle can expand the imagination. With the castle’s secret passages, dark nooks and narrow corridors vampires can easily hide inside and took action at night. The mystique and grandeur of the place also fits the lifestyle of a vampire. There is nothing wrong in believing that vampires do exist so satisfying one’s curiosity by visiting Bran Castle is a must.
