The Tahiti Guitar Festival for 2012 will be held at the Le Meridien Hotel located in the city of Punaauia. The actual date of the 5th annual festival is still being determined. The first Tahiti Guitar Festival occurred in the year 2008 and has gained a substantial amount of popularity ever since. The first Festival had a staggering one thousand five hundred spectators.
Some of the individuals that preformed at the 2008 first festival were the January Grist Duo, guitar and accordion Celtic Guichen Brothers, and Fred Blondin and Norbert Krief. Those that participate in the guitar festival are fighting for the chance to become the most promising Polynesian guitarist. The quality of musicians is said to be phenomenal.
Most individuals who attended the first festival would agree that although the music was good, the atmosphere of the event was even better. The guitarists, some of which came from other countries such as France, proved over and over again that music truly is a universal language that brings people together to celebrate and makes one feel emotion through the music and musicians. Each performance, no matter the artist, brought many spectators to their feet dancing and clapping to the beat. The musical arrangements had a little something for everybody including rock, blues, and jazz.
What makes the Tahiti Guitar Festival stand out is that they also sponsor Hopes Guitar Tahiti. It is a contest that is held for individuals that are 15-25 years of age and non-professional artist. The judges or screening board selects 10 individuals to move on to the next round. Each individual gets a television spot to showcase their guitar abilities. Viewers get the opportunity to vote for their favorite artists. After the winner is announced they get the opportunity to showcase their work on a weekly basis. This has opened many doors of opportunities for young up and coming guitarists.
The second installment of the Tahiti Guitar Festival happened February of 2009. It brought many artists back plus many more new faces. Some of the artists that played at the second Festival were David Reinhardt, Richard Manetti, Eric Fernandez, and Steve Louvat.
In the third installment of the Festival they brought on new international superstars and opened the competition to all ages. On top of this they added a new spin allowing duets to perform. The winner of the 2009 installment of the Festival was contracted for six months at the hotel and could be seen at the 2010 festival.
If you are an avid guitar fan then visiting the two day Festival is a must. It is a fun, energetic, family oriented event for all to come and rock out with the best from around the world!
