One of the events is a festival that is hosted every January; it is the Smoked Pork Sausage Festival. The local residents call this Festas das Chouricas. This festival is dedicated to a patron saint of animals, St. Luis. Pork is one of the many foods you will find abundant in this region of Portugal. If you are a seafood lover, then come to Algarve in mid August when you can enjoy a festival that is dedicated to fish, Festival do Marisco. This festival is held every August and you can enjoy the many delicacies that the Atlantic Ocean has to offer. Just think you can taste mussels and oysters as you sit on the sandy beach.

One of the religious festivals held in April is the Feira de Mae Soberana where the 16th century statue of the Sovereign Mother is moved to the Church of Sao Francisco. This festival takes place as two festivals, the Festa Pequenha and the Festa Grande, that are held a few days apart. If you like music, then visit the Lagos Jazz festival that is held yearly in April. You can also enjoy the International Music Festival where you can dance and listen to the various types of music or see the horses on the International Horse Riding Circuit.

You can travel back to the time of the Middle Ages in Castro Marim. Okay, here is a festival for the men, it is called Silves Beer Festival. For ten days they can drink all the beer they like.
